About the movie
English— Cinema is Simplice’s passion. In Burkina Faso, he usually creates films about human relationships. This project has taken him to Switzerland, where he has trouble in making contacts. How can he find a story if no one wants to talk to him? These worries rob him of his sleep until he came up with a new idea — how to take away people’s fear of the unknown.
French— Le cinéma est la passion de Simplice. Au Burkina Faso, il réalise généralement des films sur les relations humaines. Ce projet l’a conduit en Suisse, où il a du mal à nouer des contacts. Comment peut-il trouver une histoire si personne ne veut lui parler ? Ces soucis le privent de son sommeil jusqu’à ce qu’il trouve une nouvelle idée : comment faire disparaître la peur des gens de l’inconnu.
About the director
English — Simplice Herman Ganou was born in August 1974. He is a director and screenwriter from Burkina Faso and worked as an educator of street children. He received a Master in Sociologie and a License in Art, before he joined an MA in Documentary Filmmaking at the Gaston Berger University of Saint Louis in Senegal in 2010. Bakoroman (2011, doc, 62‘) is his first professional film. In 2017, he won the Golden Tanit at Carthage Film Festival with The Koro of Bakoro, the Survivors of Faso / Le Koro du bakoro, naufrag s du Faso (doc, 78‘), which had its world premiere in 2017 at Visions du R el, Nyon. In spring 2019, he presented his new feature documentary Organisme Religieusement Modifi (in production) in Cannes in the course of La Fabrique Cin ma by the Institut Fran ais.

Il a reçu un Master en Sociologie et Licence en Art, avant de a rejoint une maîtrise en réalisation de films documentaires à la Université Gaston Berger de Saint Louis au Sénégal en 2010. Bakoroman (2011, doc, 62′) est son premier film professionnel. Dans 2017, il a remporté le Tanit d’or au Festival de Carthage avec Les Koro de Bakoro, les Survivants du Faso / Le Koro du bakoro, naufrag s du Faso (doc, 78‘), qui a fait sa première mondiale en 2017 à Visions du R el, Nyon. Au printemps 2019, il a présenté son nouveau long métrage documentaire Organisme Religieusement Modifi (en production) à Cannes dans le cadre de La Fabrique Cinéma par l’Institut Français.
